To
expose trainees to completely different learning experiences
and to foster interdisciplinary research, the practica
are undertaken during a one to three month research period,
in a pillar that is distinct from the trainee’s primary
research area. International practica at each of the training
sites are encouraged and supported. The practica are tailored
to each trainee and appropriate mentors, goals and objectives,
and time lines are established. Evaluation of the research
practica takes the form of a written report and oral presentation.
In an effort to place knowledge translation as a priority,
a number of these practica have resulted in publications
(for an example see attached publications #3 also reference
(20)). The IID&GH Training Program has made significant
efforts to secure more practicum sites (see attached letters).
