The
training program will be given direction by the Program
Advisory Committee (PAC) (Please see Figure).
Members of the
PAC include key stake holders such as government, industry
(John Langstaff CEO of CANGENE), community members (Nine
Circles, aboriginal community, etc), non-profit sector
(Terry Duguid – CEO ICID), academia (U of A’s VP Research
Lorne Babiuk; U of Manitoba’s Allan Ronald), our international
partners and one of our trainees. The Management Committee
coordinates day to day activities, including recruiting,
admissions, finance, evaluation and curriculum. The Management
Committee is composed of the leadership of the training
program (Drs. Fowke, Plummer, Moses, Wylie and Mignone;
international site representatives (Drs. Washington, Estambale
and Rojas; and three trainee representatives). The trainees
and mentors are organized by Training Sites (Winnipeg,
Bangalore, Medellin and Nairobi). The exchange of knowledge
between mentors and trainees takes the form for their major
research project, major courses, learning visits, practica
and Infectious Minds meeting. Trainees are represented
on the PAC, Management Committee and the trainee-dominated
Curriculum Working Group, which reviews the curriculum
and makes suggestions for changes and improvements. The
NCCID will coordinate knowledge translation, the Centre
for Global Public Health will lead the global health agenda
and the Centre for Aboriginal Health Research will provide
direction on aboriginal health topics.
